Fred Hassan

Fred has extensive energy industry experience and has held senior management potions with Union Gas and Ontario Power Generation.  He has both the strategic as well as the detailed level understanding of the structure and operation of power and gas markets.

Fred is recognized as a leading innovator of new gas supply practices in North America. He has restructured gas supply and transportation portfolios, dealt with the impacts of deregulation, helped design and implement new direct purchase contracts, implemented new supply transport and facility optimization programs, designed and implemented new commodity and transportation risk management processes and commercial practises.

On the power side, Fred represents the Ontario gas industry on the Ontario Government’s Market Design Committee, was a member of the IESO stakeholder advisory committee and also helped create the Ontario task force on distributed generation. In his capacity at Elenchus Research Associates he has assisted a number of generators and distributors with their gas strategies. Most recently he is assisting the Ontario Energy Board with the Natural Gas Electricity Interface Review. 

Fred is a principal in e3xA providing energy analysis, advice and advocacy. He is vice-chair of the University of Western Ontario’s Engineering Advisory Council as well as being chair of Chatham Kent Utility Services and Board member of Chatham-Kent Energy.
